Adhesion decides, not looks

Renovating factory UV-finished parquet

A factory UV finish is hard and closed. Without preparation and without an adhesion test a new coating does not bond to it reliably.

“UV-finished” says how the finish cured, not what it is made of. Some factory systems are additionally reinforced with hard particles, others are not — so there is no single answer for all engineered parquet. What decides is whether a new coating bonds to this particular surface, and that is established by a test, not by appearance.

Process

From diagnosis to the correct LOBA layer.

01

Confirm what you have

From the documentation or a cross-section determine whether this is factory-finished factory-finished parquet (SL) and whether the surface is textured, brushed or bevelled.

02

Basic cleaning

CareRemover 1 : 4 with a green pad, immediate wet vacuuming and neutralising with clean water. The old maintenance layer must be gone, down to a known starting point.

03

Complete drying

A new coating does not go onto a damp substrate. The drying time is set by the room climate and the amount of water used.

04

Adhesion test

On a hidden spot apply the system in its full sequence and check adhesion, colour and sheen. We do not carry out the work without this step.

05

Application within the right window

LOBA 2K Contact in a thin layer, then an approved top coat — 2K Supra A.T. or 2K Duo in a non-gloss version — earliest after 2 hours and at the latest within 24 hours.

STOP

When should this route not be used?

It is not a universal solution for every old finish. Unsuitable, flaking or worn-through layers and unknown compatibility require a test or different preparation. If the adhesion test fails, the only honest route is sanding.

If surface care is not enough.

All questions →
Can every engineered parquet be recoated without sanding?

No. The system is intended for industrially finished engineered parquet and requires preparation, a test area and an approved top coat. The result of the adhesion test decides, not the age or brand of the parquet.

Why is sanding not the first choice on a textured surface?

Because it would remove the brushed or bevelled geometry that is part of the look. That is exactly why an adhesion primer is often the more sensible route on such floors.

What does the 2–24 hour window mean?

The top coat is applied over 2K Contact earliest after 2 hours and at the latest within 24 hours. Outside that window adhesion is no longer assured.

The surface type, depth of damage and previous care determine whether the correct route is cleaning, a maintenance layer, oil, 2K Contact or sanding.
