Care treatment or a new topcoat?

Protective coating for parquet

A maintenance layer may be removable or permanent, depending on the product; a 2K topcoat creates a new protective surface. Their purpose, preparation and risks are different.

30–40 ml/m²maintenance layer
100–120 ml/m²2K finish
1test area required

For light scratches and wear paths, a compatible care treatment is often sufficient. Suitable factory-finished parquet can be recoated with the 2K Contact system. If the wood is exposed, sanding and a new lacquer finish are required.

Process

From diagnosis to the correct LOBA layer.

01

Define the objective

Do you want easier cleaning and less visible wear, or a genuinely new lacquered finish?

02

Assess adhesion

The existing finish must be sound. A delaminating or worn-through layer is not a suitable base for a new film.

03

Match the sheen

Extra-matt, satin and higher-gloss finishes show transitions differently; the choice must match the existing appearance.

04

Confirm the system

Care products differ in removability, while 2K Contact has specifically approved topcoats and a defined application window.

Products for this route

Each product has one clear role.

STOP

When should this route not be used?

The word "coating" alone does not tell you whether the product is a cleaner, care product, oil, adhesion primer or 2K finish. These products are not interchangeable.

Next treatment

If surface care is not enough.

All questions →
Is a care coating as durable as a new 2K finish?

No. A care layer is designed to extend service life and conceal light signs of wear. A new 2K finish provides different mechanical and chemical protection.

Can I simply lacquer over an old care layer?

No. Care-product residues must be removed completely because even a small amount can compromise adhesion.

Which coating preserves the most natural appearance?

InvisibleCare may be suitable for extra-matt lacquered floors. 2K InvisibleProtect is a new protective finish for correctly prepared bare wood, not a general care product for an old finish.

The surface type, depth of damage and previous care determine whether the correct route is cleaning, a maintenance layer, oil, 2K Contact or sanding.
