Dullness has three different causes and each is dealt with differently. The first step is to work out which one is yours.

A dull parquet is the most common complaint about lacquered floors and at the same time the most often wrongly solved. If the cause is an old maintenance layer, a new coat increases the dullness. If the cause is a worn finish, cleaning will not help. That is why a test in a hidden spot comes first.

Process
From diagnosis to the correct LOBA layer.
Compare
If the cleaned spot is even again, the dullness was dirt or an old care film. If it stays dull, the finish itself is worn.
With a film, go all the way
The old care layer has to be removed from the whole connected surface, not only from the most visible part — otherwise a visible boundary appears.
With wear, renew the protection
After cleaning, a protective care layer, or on a suitable factory finish a full recoat after an adhesion test.
Adjust the care
A pH-neutral cleaner at the prescribed concentration and a well wrung-out mop. Too much product is the most common reason the dullness comes back.

When should this route not be used?
If the dullness is grey and bare wood shows through it, this is not a film but wear down to the wood. Then no care coating is enough.

Why is the parquet duller after cleaning than before?
Most often because of too high a product concentration or a cloth that was not wrung out enough. The residue dries into a film that scatters light.
Can the dullness be polished out?
With a care film sometimes yes, with a worn finish no. Polishing adds no protection and on a worn-through finish it only deepens the difference.
Do I have to remove the old care film?
If it is uneven, sticky or greyish along the edges, yes. A new coat over an uneven film creates an even more uneven surface.
