A residue, not dirt

Sticky parquet after cleaning

Sticky floors are almost never dirty. What sits on them is a residue of a product that did not dry or had nowhere to penetrate.

4common causes
1neutralising with clean water
0benefit from more product

Stickiness arises when more product stays on the surface than could evaporate or be absorbed. The cause can be too high a cleaner concentration, the wrong type of product, an old care film maintenance layer that has softened, or a household detergent that leaves a film on wooden floors. Adding more product always makes it worse.

Process

From diagnosis to the correct LOBA layer.

01

Stop adding product

Every new coat increases the amount that has to dry. The next step is removal, not addition.

02

Rinse with clean water

A well wrung-out mop and water only, in several passes. Many cases end right here.

03

Check the type of surface

A cleaner for lacquered floors on oiled parquet, and an oil product on a lacquered one, both leave a film. The type of surface must be confirmed.

04

With a stubborn film, basic cleaning

Diluted CareRemover with a green pad, immediate wet vacuuming and neutralising with clean water.

05

Return to the correct concentration

The ratio prescribed in the technical data sheet and a mop wrung out so that no wet trail is left behind it.

Each product has one clear role.

STOP

When should this route not be used?

On oiled floors stickiness is often excess oil that was not wiped off within the prescribed time. Water does not remove that; intensive cleaning and a new, far thinner coat do.

Next treatment

If surface care is not enough.

Questions

Answers for this procedure.

All questions →
Why is the floor sticky only in places?

Because the product was applied unevenly, or because the film softened faster on the busier spots. Unevenness is a sign of residue, not of dirt.

Does hot water help?

Not significantly, but it increases the risk. More water and a higher temperature mean longer contact with the wood; what works is the mechanical pad and the right product, not the temperature.

Can I apply new care over a sticky film?

No. A new coat over a softened film will not dry evenly and will prolong the stickiness.

The surface type, depth of damage and previous care determine whether the correct route is cleaning, a maintenance layer, oil, 2K Contact or sanding.
